How does each various method of record making & keeping influence memory (the record of the mind)?
If forgetting is an essential function of memory, how can one ensure the security and sovereignty of that function? Conversely, how can be hijacked from serving one’s own better purposes?
How does the brain file & keep its records? How does it learn to do this? Is there a preset which is universal for all humans? What factors in concetion, utero & growth influence a babies presets? How can a baby’s (preverbal) memory be determined? What cues of recognition are knowable and known?
One might tend to think that the act of recording would best facilitate the functions of forgetting, leaving it on the page, but each type also offers opportunity for imprinting. So, each style of writing (graphology), the color & flow of ink, the paper type (the lines on the page are the bars on the cage), the environment within which the recording is done, Left or Right hand, wether cognizant of the recording (and which kinds of cognizance), considerations ad infinitum, all seeming to engage and alter the various functions of memory, variably…”
X reflected on the ways in which records of her had been collected, stolen, curated, erased and forged throughout her life through events meant to seem unrelated, muddying the meaning of their correlation as she herself had been smeared by the control of her records, both internal and external. Even her mental records had not been properly secured, with indications of her handlers narratives in the remaining montage of traumatic memories which encroached upon any memory of love, truth, justice or a life worth living. She was losing the clarity, or gaining the perspective which had defined if her life had always been so harrowing or if it was just all that remained of the records, collected and filed under the influence of undetected tactical terror. Trafficking victims used for psychological experimentation, by and large, could not remember properly, but given the chance, perhaps, what (and how and why and when and where and with whom, under which conditions) we forget could be another kind of proof.
