Genius was a sort of joke to her now. Once one comes into understanding the magnitude of the theft and public suppression of advancement in information and technologies that has taken place since welllll before Tesla, it truly seemed to be a sort of sick and twisted joke, for the enjoyment of the witholders. A “genius” of today barely sets foot upon the base of the mountain range of knowledge and understanding which has been hoarded from the masses by these dragons of old, the ruling classes. For them to view our efforts without the wisdom they withhold, the advancement they have stunted, would be as though to travel back in time with a sci-fi army and watching the local defence fling rocks or load muskets, one side having a detailed playbook of the other. The genius in the historical scene would be the one suggesting not to fight unprecedented foes with traditional tactics, written off and ignored by those who would die by their own blind pride.

X’s father had been an inventor and a highly intelligent and philosophical man. He was put out of business, electrolit, life destroyed and patents stolen and legacy distorted or scrubbed from the record. Through conceiving his demise and how it echoed through hers and her brothers lives, she began to detect it more and more in the world around her and throughout history. X often wondered if she could be projecting and regularly inspected and surveyed for evidence against it, but it had yet to garner reasonable refutation, that genius was everywhere, a resource siphoned from society since god knows when.

It was evident throughout the nation, that the selected officials of any given field were never very intelligent, just intelligent enough to pull it off and believe it enough to be believable. They were only as intelligent as their resistance to trickery, and those resistant to trickery, having experience facing having been tricked, insecure, were looked and lorded over for those who confidently believed and conducted themselves as to be.

Those of a truly heightened and independent intellect were not treated or placed very well at all. It seemed, at best, you could call yourself autistic, a demographic still not treated very well at all.

But I suppose all have intellect as a raw resource, but it is how it is extracted, refined and applied that is the true difference I am speaking of. Perhaps the “geniuses” simply betray the confining conventions of thought which limit the free and unfettered development of society and self.

To claim oneself a genius has, at this stage, become a trap. It’s translated into crazy. Someone else has to claim you are a genius. Many people had told X that she was a genius, savant or renaissance woman in her life, though by the time she took them seriously, they were gone. People appreciated intelligence until the moment it contradicted their held beliefs, and X would inevitably contradict those of anyone she met.

It would seem that the tortured genius was a tale as old as time, whether by those who would seek to own and exploit their contributions or by a society conditioned to isolate and revile them. The only acceptable information of the day, it seemed, was through “reputable sources”, that afforded by those who controlled the media and markets. Any self discovery had to be verified by institutions designed to gatekeep the critical thinkers, the question askers out. She could logically demonstrate her points, but this kind of logic was rejected by minds trained to look to fallacious authorities.

Being smart at this point, was to be insane in a system which defined “problematic” modes of intelligence as such….
