Good advice, bad advice, it’s all pretty relative.
One piece of good and bad advice that I’ve gotten is,
“X why don’t you tell yourself a new story”,
As though somehow rewriting my history would just rewrite my history.
Meanwhile the people who say that to me seem blissfully unaware that they are themselves telling themselves a story about me when they say that to me. The good side of the advice is that, yes, how I tell my story, especially how I tell where it’s going has a very strong effect on the outcomes and how I experience it. In this way it is powerfully good advice, while, as is true for all powerfully good advice it can be misused and in the service of what we’ll call “evil”.
So this is the first song I ever wrote on an instrument and I’d like to dedicate it to the Fox and the Wolf, who inspired it. I hope you like it.
Stories We Tell (~2014)
I like the way that you talk
when you’re talking that way
although I’m absent minded,
Won’t catch all that you say
But I like the stories you tell
I like the stories you tell
and when you’re telling them, darlin’,
Oh, you tell them so well
Of day trippin’ with strangers
All those blue collar dangers,
circus tricks on the beach
or all the treetops you reached
Or that one Halloween
when you’re dressed up as the Queen
and you did a good job
you got hit on by a mobster
So keep on watchin’ my thighs,
I got my eyes on your eyes
you tell me don’t fall in love
I say I do it I want
’cause you’re my story to tell
and I’m your story as well
don’t need forever, though, darlin’
all the best stories end
don’t need forever, though, darlin’
all the best stories end
Anyways that’s me, from reality, reaching through whatever stories you might tell about me. Maybe you don’t tell any story about it. I would take a blank slate over being printed and projected on, personally, but, you know, I gotta say that well continuing to have to reprocess all of the paintings and projections that I have cast while I didn’t know I was a victim of coercive control, which is, you know, my whole life up until very recently. So in this world of spinning narratives that seem to be muddying reality – if you’re going to be delulu, choose your own delulu’s well.
Love you guys”
